NPA welcomes new team members to support its global community!

The News Product Alliance is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its team, Margaret Schneider and Bárbara Pereira.

Margaret (she/they) is joining the team as the Community Manager, responsible for developing and executing community engagement strategy, planning and hosting community events, engaging with members to facilitate connections, and moderating our Slack channels to ensure all NPA members feel safe.

Bárbara (she/her) is taking on the role of Communications Manager, responsible for overseeing all communication and marketing efforts for the organization, such as developing strategies for social platforms and managing editorial content.

We are thrilled to have them both onboard and look forward to their contributions to advancing NPA’s goal of building a diverse talent pipeline of news product professionals who can transform the news industry by rebuilding trust with underserved audiences, delivering quality journalism, and building sustainable media businesses.

Meet Margaret and Bárbara!

Margaret Schneider is passionate about making the lives of writers and editors better. She's worked in or adjacent to newsrooms her entire career, serving as a managing editor in city and regional publications, editing books and alt-weeklies, and launching several startup publications. At Newspack, she managed training and documentation for 250 small- and medium-size newsrooms. At Alley, she created the agency's WordPress CMS training program, training hundreds of folks on editorial teams across the U.S. and beyond.

Margaret is a Certified Scrum Master with 20 years' experience as a community manager, who has wrangled dozens of launches and redesigns. She's a frequent panelist and facilitator at industry events including the NPA Summit; SRCCON; the IRE conference; WordCamp for Publishers meetups; Out In Tech meetups; and the Online News Association conference, ONA Insights, and Women's Leadership Accelerator. She previously co-organized ONA St. Louis and served on the board of Washington University Student Media.

She is also an artist and musician who's exhibited in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, and St. Louis. Her song "Don't Know What It Is (About KDHX)" can be heard on the Save KDHX benefit compilation, supporting DJs of the St. Louis independent community radio station.

Bárbara Pereira is a journalist currently based in São Paulo, Brazil. She has experience in creating social media content for various platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. In the past, Bárbara has worked as a hard news producer for two of Brazil's top media houses, CNN Brasil and Estadão. In the last one, she was the newscaster of a daily Instagram program that presented the latest happenings around the world. During her time there, she also was responsible for creating, recording, editing, and distributing videos on social media.

Apart from being a journalist, she is also a content creator and digital influencer in Brazil. She hosts the travel and food podcast Por Onde Andei, and shares her experiences related to these topics on her social media profiles and website. Bárbara is a heavy enthusiast of the reading habit and enjoys cooking desserts during her free time.
