NPA Summit 2024: Tech & Trust
How News Product Leaders are solving journalism's toughest challenges with audience, tech, and business expertise.
Thank you for joining us on October 11 at the NPA Summit to address journalism's toughest challenges through audience, technology, and business expertise. We are planning our event for 2025 and we hope you will join us there.
If you attended this year’s event, you can find recordings of Master Classes and the Keynote on the Eventbrite event page until Nov. 15.
The NPA Summit Program
The News Product Alliance Summit is a hands-on virtual conference where everyone who attends actively participates. We provide a mix of introductory and intermediate-to-advanced level sessions, creating opportunities for seasoned news product professionals to collaborate and learn from each other, as well as entry points for journalists and others to learn more about basic product management concepts.
In our keynote, “Navigating Trust: Cultivating media trust in a sea of information,” Agnes Stenbom, Head of IN/LAB & Trust Initiatives at Schibsted Media shared insights from Schibsted’s substantial work on identifying drivers of media trust and provided recommendations for media practitioners looking to serve both current and future users in an ever-changing information landscape.
Additional highlights from this year’s program included:
Beyond Chatbots: How Can We Build Next-Gen AI User Interfaces?
Empathy Without Exhaustion: Lean Strategies for Understanding Your Community
Connecting with Intention: Building a unified CRM for engaged newsroom communities
The Newsletter Treasure Trove: Revenue and Engagement Secrets
Trust as a metric: How to demystify and communicate commerce strategy with a product lens.

This year’s program included two distinct session types:
Master Class: Focused on skill-building with deep dives into specific tools, techniques, or strategies. These were recorded for ongoing access.
Interactive: Participatory conversations with peer-to-peer learning. These sessions fostered rich discussions and collaborative problem-solving without recordings to ensure a safe, open environment.
Participating at The Summit

Registrations are closed for the NPA Summit, which was held on October 11.
-
Like last year, the Summit was 100% virtual. The sessions were held on Zoom, with conversations also happening in the NPA Slack.

You don’t need a product title to be a news product thinker. Anyone who approaches their work from the intersection of editorial, audience, business and technology can be a news product thinker. The Summit programming is built around the concept of Ask & Give: all community members should feel safe to ask others for help in one way or another, and every member of our community — regardless of experience, career level, or background — has essential strengths and knowledge to give to others. We believe everyone in our community has a role in leading discussions and ultimately creating change in the industry.
-
We are committed to ensuring global access to this event, particularly for people from historically marginalized communities. Our ticket structure offered tiered prices from $50 to $395, depending on the employer’s ability to pay. In addition, we had a limited number of costless community-supported free tickets set aside for people who otherwise would not be able to attend for financial reasons, with priority for Black and Indigenous participants, people of color, and international journalists around the world.
-
The NPA Slack community now has 2,000+ members that include a combination of news product professionals, journalists, developers, technologists, data scientists, and other media-tech adjacent professionals from around the world and diverse backgrounds. The conversation is moderated by our team, and we host community-only year-round events.
The community is founded around the concept of Ask/Give: We welcome everyone joining our community to seek support and help, and also, to share, teach and give. We believe everyone, regardless of experience or job title, has a role in leading discussion and ultimately creating change in the industry.
It’s free to join us on Slack. Just fill out an application and tell us about yourself.
