Applications are open for the September 2024 cohort of the News Product Management Certification

Applications for the News Product Management Certification (NPMC) program are officially open until May 2, 2024. The News Product Alliance is proud to partner again with the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.

The NPMC is a 3.5-month, rigorous, virtual course for mid to senior-level news professionals seeking to enhance their product strategy, technical expertise, and change management skills. It aims to bridge the skill gap in the news industry by helping participants master the product methodologies used by the world's leading newsrooms and technology companies.

"We're thrilled with the success of our first NPMC cohort! This program not only provides the participants with product knowledge and skills, but also effectively empowers the next generation of industry leaders to create sustainable and resilient news organizations. We're proud to offer this opportunity again", said Feli Carrique, executive director of the News Product Alliance.

This course is for candidates who have some product experience, such as working on editorial products, and may work in mid-level or senior roles from any part of the organization, including editorial, technology, audience, and revenue positions. Applicants may want to transition from an editorial or other role into a formal product role, or improve their product strategy by deepening their technical understanding of digital products in the context of the news industry.

Our second cohort of 25-30 participants will start in September 2024 with weekly live virtual sessions, lectures, and coaching sessions and will culminate in a final capstone project showcasing participants' strategic decision-making abilities around news product development. Just like the first cohort, the NPMC will be taught by leading and executive-level product professionals from the tech and news industry.

“Participants in the NPMC get a rare, step-by-step training in news product development and management to advance their careers, help their newsrooms and innovate for the industry," said Marie Gilot, J+ Executive Director at the Newmark J-School at CUNY. “I encourage all interested to apply.”

During the application period, applicants can indicate their interest in being considered for full or partial needs-based financial support.

News organizations can also secure up to two spots for their employees in the program. Please reach out to npmc@newsproduct.org if you have further questions.

Next Wednesday, April 10th, at 12 p.m. ET, the NPMC team will host a Q&A session to address your questions about the program - such as its objectives, application process, and curriculum. Click here and register for the call!
