Introducing the Fourth Cohort of the News Product Management Certification
30 news professionals are beginning a 3.5-month journey to strengthen their product leadership skills through the NPMC program
The News Product Management Certification (NPMC) is launching its fourth cohort, bringing together mid-to-senior-level news professionals from across the globe. Over the next 3.5 months, participants will learn directly from industry leaders, building the strategy, technical skills, and leadership capacity needed to drive meaningful change in their organizations.
Run by the News Product Alliance in partnership with the J+ program at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, the program blends practical training with a strong peer network. Participants will gain hands-on experience in audience development, revenue and sustainability, product design, and stakeholder management—all while applying these tools to challenges inside their own news organizations.
This group of 30 product thinkers comes from 9 countries and represents roles such as Product Lead, New Formats Editor, Director of Content Strategy, and more. You can see the full list below.
“Our program is about giving journalism professionals the skills and support they need to lead in the age of AI and rapid audience behaviour shift,” said Feli Carrique, Executive Director of the News Product Alliance. “It’s not just about learning product frameworks—it’s about changing the way we think about news products and how they can serve communities.”
As the first certification dedicated to news product management, the NPMC provides a unique space for product professionals to build knowledge and confidence in a discipline that’s essential to the future of journalism. The curriculum includes a mix of classes, coaching, and a final capstone project that showcases participants’ ability to turn strategy into execution. Along the way, they’ll connect with mentors and peers who are shaping the field.
“Each cohort expands the community of product thinkers who are building solutions for journalism,” said Marie Gilot, executive director for J+. “We’re proud to create a space where participants can sharpen their skills and take home ideas they can act on immediately.”
With support from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, this cohort also includes a strong group of participants from U.S. local newsrooms—part of a shared commitment to strengthen the product pipeline that the industry urgently needs.
The NPMC has already trained more than 90 product professionals through its first three cohorts with an outstanding Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 90. Applications for the next round open on October 23, 2025—subscribe to our mailing list to stay updated!
