NPA Programs

The News Product Alliance helps close the gap between what audiences need and what newsrooms can sustainably deliver by building product capability across the field. Our programs support every level of the news industry: practitioners, leaders, and news organizations alike. Each layer reinforces the next: stronger practitioners build stronger organizations, and stronger organizations raise the standard for the whole ecosystem.

The programs below put that mission into practice.

Community

NPA runs the largest network of news product practitioners, with a deliberate push to ensure that network reflects the communities it serves. We believe news product practitioners figure things out faster and stay in the field longer when they're not doing it alone. That’s why our community programs are designed for interactivity and collaboration, so practitioners can share ideas, learn from each other, and advance the field together.

Training

Through our News Product Management Certification and other career development programs, NPA builds a pipeline of news leaders with the specific skills – such as understanding audience needs, translating them into strategy, and navigating operational and technology trade-offs – to deliver sustainable news products. We deliberately invest in people from backgrounds underrepresented in news leadership, on the theory that who holds these roles shapes what gets built.

Capacity-building

NPA works directly with newsrooms to develop durable product operations that outlast any single program. Our capacity-building programs help news organizations translate audience understanding into strategy, set clear priorities, and operate as product-led teams.
