Applications are open for the March 2025 cohort of the News Product Management Certification
Applications for the next cohort of the News Product Management Certification (NPMC) program are officially open until December 2, 2024. The News Product Alliance is proud to partner again with the J+ at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY to bring its groundbreaking program back online.
The NPMC is a 3.5-month, virtual course tailored for mid to senior-level news professionals looking to enhance their product strategy, technical expertise, and change management skills. Designed to bridge the product skill gap in the news industry, the program provides participants with methodologies used by leading newsrooms and technology companies worldwide.
What makes the NPMC unique?
Designed for news professionals, the NPMC equips participants with the skills needed to lead innovation and product development in their organizations.
The curriculum addresses the needs of today’s news product teams. Participants will gain practical insights through exclusive, real-life case studies.
Upon completion, participants receive a certificate that opens new career opportunities in news product management.
Past participants have described the program as transformative, not only for their careers but for their organization’s capacity to develop sustainable news products. Alumni have seen tangible outcomes, including improved workflows, stronger audience connections, and process innovations that have redefined their organizations’ digital presence. “I'm so glad this program exists. I feel like it's changed my career trajectory in the best way”, said Leah Becerra, Senior Digital Editor at The Boston Globe.
“As technology rapidly transforms audience behavior and expectations, news organizations must keep pace with innovation to meet the evolving information needs of their communities. Skilled product leaders are crucial to driving this change, seamlessly aligning editorial, technological, and business strategies to ensure that news organizations remain sustainable and representative of the audiences they serve. The News Product Management Certification (NPMC) is bridging the product skill gap in the industry, empowering the next generation of leaders to shape the future of journalism”, said Feli Carrique, executive director of the News Product Alliance.
The next cohort will consist of 25-30 participants who will engage in weekly virtual sessions. The program will culminate in a final capstone project presentation, where participants can showcase their ability to lead strategic decision-making in news product development. Just like the first and the second cohorts, the NPMC will be taught by leading and C-suite level professionals from the tech and news industry.
“Participants in the NPMC get a rare, step-by-step training in news product development and management to advance their careers, help their newsrooms and innovate for the industry," said Marie Gilot, J+ Executive Director at the Newmark J-School at CUNY. “I encourage all interested to apply.”
